Because of you and all things,
I saw the first sunrise of 2022,
then made welcoming soba for the new year.
Performed during the weekend,
and today,
made a ridiculously delicious umeboshi burger.
Staring this new year with a bang.
Keep on grinding.
Happy New Year!

This year once again,
please take me for who I am.

Fruit Bunny / 果物ウサギ by Goh Kurosawa

This is how I remember...

Once upon a time, there was a galaxy filled with Fruit Bunnies; various fruits for their tails... oranges, apples, pineapples (obviously a pineapple was a little inconvenient to hop hop the bunny thing).

One day, Bun Bun with the tail of an apple comes to our world. However, Bun Bun's apple tail is lost and he transforms into a Tatarigami (the monster god of death perhaps most commonly known today from the Princess Mononoke movie). He starts killing everything that he touches until...

He bumps into a gigantic doggy (way larger than any Tatarigami). The gigantic doggy goes "Wan wan (or 'woof woof' in English)," and they make a choice to go look for the missing apple tail together...

They eventually come along to a huge tree (even bigger than the gigantic doggy). Far up in the tree, the Fruit Bunny believes he sees his missing apple tail, "I think that is my apple tail!" and the gigantic doggy answers by barking "Wan wan (in Japan, dogs go 'wan wan' so let's get it right all)."

They try to figure out a way up to the top. In the process however, they fall asleep peacefully underneath the mighty tree; perhaps even more peaceful than any silent night of Christmas (click “HERE“ for video of Silent Night)...

Now the story has a few alternate endings, but the one that I keep going to is...

The Fruit Bunny is now dreaming, smiling, and telling himself, "Perhaps I do no longer need my apple tail any more, since I found a great friend."

On Sun 12/12 2021 (US time zone), a new song came to me, leading me to believe that the Fruit Bunny has returned. On Wed 12/15 2021 (US time zone & Thu 12/16 2021 in Japan), friends from Across Waters confirmed that they have been seeing many bunnies in Denver Colorado, and Whidbey Island Washington.

Have you found the Fruit Bunny yet?

The world would rejoice by hearing (y)our honest story. Make effort (for every job that needs to be done, there is an element of fun) to share your letter to the world; today, tomorrow, and 2022.

Visit https://bit.ly/3yyhERo for an article by Travis Rogers, Jr. (The Jazz Owl) to learn about my CD album Energy / 命 and the original Fruit Bunny music.

Keep well, lovetap the world, and happy holidays!

Bellingham... I'm coming! by Goh Kurosawa

Destination is Bellingham; I am flying for the first time in two years.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GOH live in PNW
Sun 11/21 5pm @ JUXT Taphouse
accepting donations (free admission)
119 W Holly Street Bellingham, WA 98225
www.juxttaphouse.com

Residing in Los Angeles and travelling the world from Japan, GOH (Goh Kurosawa) is a musician armed with Honey Beast (his guitar), Lucky8 (his amp), fresh original songs, electrifying soundscapes, and stunning arrangements of familiar global melodies.

Scott Yanow (journalist for AllMusic & LA Jazz Scene) expresses: "Goh Kurosawa's music is beyond any simple classification. The guitarist improvises melodically, is open to the influences of pop, rock, flamenco, classical, Latin and Japanese music, and has his own musical identity. Equally skilled on electric and acoustic guitars, he has mastered tapping and sometimes uses electrical devices to create a wide range of sounds yet is not shy to embrace a pretty melody; personable and eager to talk about his music and guitar tunings between songs, Goh put on a warm and entertaining show. His set included Bob Marley's No Women No Cry, My Family My Friends (original), a Japanese folk song, Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah (which he sang) and parts of a suite he recently composed."

GOH's performance at JUXT will be his first outside of Los Angeles since the start of the pandemic. Coincidentally, he will be playing at the Taphouse and the name of his tour is the Lovetap Tour. The focus of his first out-of-state performance is "finding home." GOH says, "A dear old friend of mine, Roger Mills (former co-owner of the Wild Buffalo in Bellingham), is flying me out to Washington state for his birthday week. Bellingham, I am coming back to you, my 'home' in the Pacific Northwest!!!"

Introducing K55 (November 17, 2021):

“te ihi, te wehi, te mataku, te mana” by Goh Kurosawa

“The Maori of New Zealand have a phrase to describe the artistic process:

‘Te ihi, te wehi, te mataku, te mana.’

Te ihi is the performer’s gift to the audience.
Te wehi is the audience’s reciprocal gift to the performer.
Te mataku describes the circular nature of that process.
Te mana is the general uplifting realized by both parties.

In their opinion, and mine as well, one can create by one’s self, but in order for it to be an artistic creation it must be shared in some way. Acceptance, rejection, ambivalence…. a response of some kind is necessary for that creation to become art. You and I have both discovered in our lives how an audience can and does shape a performance. The artistic process is participatory. Only when our creations are shared do they become art.”

Roger Mills
